Books in William Allen White Children's Book Award - 6-8th Grades
Established in 1952 by Ruth Garver Gagliardo, a children's literature specialist at Emporia State University, it honors William Allen White (1868–1944), a longtime publisher and editor of The Emporia Gazette. The White Award is the oldest statewide children's choice book award in the United States. Kansas schoolchildren vote for the books. One award per year was given through 2000, with awards being split into two categories starting in 2001 (3-5th and 6-8th grades).
